Company Profile:
BioMEMs group is located in UAB Campus. The RTD group belongs to the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona of CSIC. The group is actively pursuing both mechanically and electrically driven fluid-handling micro-devices for generic biochemical analysis. Microsystems applied to diagnostics offers many advantages over traditional analysis systems. Low power consumption and small reaction volumes, faster analysis, ultra-sensitive detection, and minimal human intervention are key parameters in the development of micro-TAS. Sensors are key technologies in the development of Distributed bioanalytical systems and Lab-on-a-chip tools, since they provide the basic means for bio-signal recording and analysis. Hence, the development of biochemical sensors, self-calibration methods and acquisition systems are fields of fundamental interest. More than 10 patents and 2 spin-offs are availables to technology tranfer.

Design, development and production of miniaturised molecular diagnostic biosystems

What we offer:
This activity addresses the design and development of novel micro and nanosensors and complex and compact miniaturized systems for biological and biomedical applications.

The various steps of device design, characterization, encapsulation and packaging, as well as customized electronic instrumentation are approached from the initial conception to the final biodevice in order to generate knowledge, micro-nano devices and complete systems with high added value.

We are developing “lab on a chip” platforms that integrate microsampling, microfluidics and ultra sensitive electrochemical detection (amperometry and impedance spectroscopy) of key bioanalytes for enzymatic or immunoi diagnosis, and monitoring.

Finally, we are specially offering new platforms for microbial microsystems for monitoring bacteria detection, fast culture diagnostics, and biofilms and biomass monitoring.

What are we looking for:
BioMEMs is looking for partners in the field of medical devices and biodevices. This fact in order to take advantage of our technological facilities and its scientific and technical know-how to transform the innovation possibilities of micro-nano technologies into successful devices that can constitute the core elements of innovative biomedical systems and advanced applications.

It includes the development of new technologies and tools for the detection, identification, quantification, and monitoring of molecules, cells and tissues of clinical and biomedical relevance.
