Silica vinyl sulfone support

What we offer:
Silica vinyl sulfone is a support that combines the features of the silica (easy handling, mechanical, chemical, biological and thermal stability) with the reactivity of the vinyl sulfone towards amine and thiol groups in "green conditions". The reaction is straightforward and can be carried out by a technician without any special training or specific equipment. It involves the direct combination of the molecule to be immobilized with the silica vinyl sulfone in an aqueous media at pH above 7.5 to yield the covalent immobilization at room temperature or 4 C without any need of previous activation. The facts that i) both thiol and amine groups are naturally present in most biomolecules and organic compounds (i.e. drugs), ii) the reaction proceeds in mild conditions that preserve the biological nature of the biomolecules, iii) no modification (i.e. derivatization or preactivation) of the molecule to be immobilized is necessary and iv) the high stability of the silica vinyl sulfone make silica vinyl sulfone an open support with wide range of applications. In life science, synthesis ad hoc of affinity resins for pull-down experiments in proteomics and the immobilization of enzymes interesting in food industry are specifically described in the patent (WO2009040460).

Vinyl sulfone single labeling reagents

What we offer:
Labeling of macromolecules is the corner stone in a multi-billion dollar industry focused on attaching a label to (bio)molecules to provide their detection, fractioning and/or analyze their interactions with other counterparts. A common approach is based on the derivatization of the labeling reagent to promote its coupling to thiol or amine groups naturally occurring in biomolecules. However, conventional derivatizations are not exempt of drawbacks such as poor water solubility or hydrolysis of the bioconjugate. The facts that i) vinyl sulfone is very stable and reactive towards biomolecules in "green conditions" that preserve their biological function, ii) the coupling is straightforward and involves the combination of the molecule to be labeled with the and the vinyl sulfone derivatized labeling agent in aqueous media at pH above 7.5, without any need of previous activation and iii) it yields a covalent bond, make vinyl sulfone single labeling reagents a competitive alternative to the options currently in the market.
Three are the tags functionalized with vinyl sulfone for their application in life sciences: dansyl, rhodamine B and biotin. The fluorescent tags dansyl and rhodamine B are the key element in many strategies that are not limited to passive detection but that comprises techniques aimed at studying conformational changes or interactions between molecules. Biotin is the base of what has been coined as the avidin-biotin technology, widely used to mediate between a recognition system (e.g. antibody-antigen or lectin-carbohydrate among others) and a reporter group (e.g. enzymatic activity)

What we offer:
Dual labeling single-attachment-point reagents (DLSA) combines the reactivity of vinyl sulfone toward biomolecules in "green conditions" with both biotin and fluorescent tags (rhodamine B, dansyl and fluorescein) commonly used in omic sciences, the former as the base of what has been coined as the avidin-biotin technology, widely used to mediate between a recognition system (e.g. antibody-antigen or lectin-carbohydrate among others) and a reporter group (e.g. enzymatic activity); the latter as the key element in many strategies that are not limited to passive detection but that comprises techniques aimed at studying conformational changes or interactions between molecules.

Self Reporting vinyl sulfone derivated click-functions

What we offer:
In recent literature the term click chemistry has been used almost exclusively to denote the Huisgen's 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of alkynes and azides under copper catalysis. Click reactions involve groups not naturally occurring in biomolecules which must be introduced. One straightforward approach is based on traditional reactions towards naturally occurring functional groups in macromolecules. In this context self reporting vinyl sulfone derivatized click-functions are reagent designed for the introduction of click functions by taking advantage of the reactivity of vinyl sulfone toward biomolecules in green conditions (i.e. aqueous media, pH above 7.5 and room temperature) and the features of dansyl, rhodamine B (fluorescence) and biotin (bitoin-avidin technology) as reporters. Thus, the fluorescent tag makes possible monitor the introduction of the click function and the click functionalized biomolecule in further stages while the biotin tag can be exploited to isolate the click functionalized biomolecule or as an anchor to conjugate with avidin-coupled biomolecules such as avidin-peroxidase, avidin-anti-IgG or avidin-ferritin among others.

PAMAM-based dendrimers functionalized with alkyl sulfonyl groups

What we offer:
The Carbohydrate Research Group (FQM-208, Junta de Andalucia) of the University of Granada has developed a new technology for the preparation of amphiphilic PAMAM-based dendrimers functionalized with alkyl sulfonyl groups. These compounds act as non viral gene delivery vectors (transfecting agents) with improved transfection properties.

The technology based in the aza-Michael type addition of vinyl sulfones to amino groups is simple, efficient, straightforward and general being applicable for the functionalization of any amino-containing polymer.

A new method of surface enrichment of metal nanoparticles on doped carbon aerogels and xerogels with catalytic applications

What we offer:
As a research group of the University of Granada, we can offer to the possible partners our experience in the preparation and applications of different types of carbon materials at laboratory scale. This patent improves clearly the previous method of synthesis of nano-structured doped carbon aerogels or xerogels, favouring the formation of highly dispersed metal nanoparticles on the carbon (also a nanoestructured material) surface. The development of interactions and anchoring sites also prevent process of sintering avoiding deactivation. Consequently, these materials show a high potentiality in catalyzed process, either from an environmental or energetic point of view.

Method and device to show the presence of trihalomethanes in continuous at the site in water supply systems

What we offer:
The present concentration of trihalomethanes (THM) in networks samples of water supply systems is classified as low, medium, or high, based on a set of easy parameters measured in continuous at the site, which evidently don´t include THM concentration.
When these values start being high, it is possible take necessary measures (e.g. to modify the water source, reduce chlorination, etc.) to prevent higher values which are not permitted by law. We have to be into account that THMs analysis is very expensive and complicated and that the presence of THMs is usually a seasonal problem

Melatonin injectable solution

What we offer:
Here we report a melatonin injectable solution with elevated stability. It corresponds to an aqueous solution of melatonin highly stable along the time that permits high concentrations of melatonin, a molecule that is normally little soluble in water. The properties of this preparation allow it useful as injectable, because it can be autoclaved maintaining its stability. The preparation can be administered as intramuscular, intravenous, and subcutaneous injections. Due to the excellent antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties of the melatonin, the active substance of the preparation, as so as its genomic and mitochondrial effects, and its chronobiotic properties, the use of the melatonin preparation here described is related to the regulation of the circadian rhythm, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and the treatment of sepsis in its different degrees and features, both in children and in adults. Thus, our melatonin preparation is applicable to all human and animal pathologies and dysfunctions coursing with mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, inflammation, and/or chronobiotic alterations.
