Fast and reliable methodologies for water quality control

What we offer:
A Spanish research group in University of Alicante has developed water quality control methods which are based on the use of an Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer. This is a versatile system that allows to determine elemental composition of liquid samples in a fast and accurate fashion. There are two big groups of parameters that can be determined through this technique:
- Method for the determination of carbon related parameters (Total organic carbon, volatile organic carbon, non-volatile organic carbon, inorganic carbon, etc.) that are also able to provide information on the content of heavy metals at low, medium and high concentrations. All these parameters can be determined separately and simultaneously. The system can be adapted to the customer requirements.
- An ionic balance can also be done in which both anions and cations are simultaneously determined with a single system.

To obtain this kind of information, the spectrometer is equipped with dedicated accessories that permit the isolation and/or chemical transformation of a given species into a suitable compound to be determined. These accessories are used on line and are fully automated. The kind of information obtained depends on the requirements. The time required to carry out this kind of analysis is shorter than that required by the conventional instrumentation. Furthermore, some problems associated to the use of these methods are overcome with the proposed accessories.
The main innovative aspect of using this methodology is the application of a single instrument equipped with automated accessories to the simultaneous determination of organic as well as inorganic water parameters.
These are the most important advantages of this technology:
- Shortening of the total analysis time
-Reduction of limits of detection of some of the determined species with respect to other conventional methods
-Mitigation of problems caused by complicated water samples (e.g., seawater, waste water…)

New accurate methodology for determining metals in fuels

What we offer:
The question raised in this case is related with the determination of the metal content in this kind of samples. This is a current problem and many limitations exist when trying to analyze samples as complex as fuels. For that reasons, this Spanish research group at University of Alicante has develop two methods by using a technology which is based on the use of an Inductively Coupled-Atomic Emission Spectrometer system with appropriate modifications in the sample introduction system permitting an accurate and fast determination of metals in fuels and biofuels:
- Method for the determination of heavy metals in petroleum products as well as biofuels. Among the samples analyzed we can find: gasoline, diesel, kerosene, biodiesel, bioethanol. Furthermore, the vacuum residues coming from the petroleum refining process can also be analyzed. All the problems related with the interferences are overcome.
- Application of new and very fast calibration methods used are applied. It is possible to carry out a full calibration procedure with more than 20 standards in just 10 minutes. These systems are based on the stirred tank technology widely known in the engineering industry
The main innovate aspect is the development of automatic and fast calibration methods to analyze petroleum products and biofuels.

Advanced impact absorbers for vehicles and structures

What we offer:
A new improved and lighter design for the internal structure in parts of vehicles: bumpers, doors, etc. and safety devices for work environments.

We use several advanced materials to modify the internal structure of standard parts in order to improve their energy absorption capacity in a crash or impact.

The new parts have a better performance and a lower weight. In cars and other vehicles, the chassis, bumpers, the engine supports and the perimeter of the passengers’ box could incorporate these new devices and this would suppose a new standard of safety and a weight reduction very adequate for electric vehicles.

This system could also be added to parts used in building construction or safety equipment.

What are we looking for:
Our project is focused to increase the level of safety of vehicle passengers and structures contributing to the overall scope of reducing the number of fatalities and the severity of injuries caused by transport and work accidents. The aim of our research is the increase of the level of safety of these systems by means of the development of innovative technologies in vehicle safety systems and work environment as well as their integration with other technologies. So, we are looking for companies interested in the characteristics of this technology related to the possible incorporation into their products.
